COURSE DESRIPTION
This course is designed to improve cardiovascular and muscle fitness, endurance, agility, and coordination. Possible activities will include: stretching, calisthenics, plyometrics, jumping rope, weight lifting, power walking, short and long distance running. The purpose of this course is to encourage students to be physically active for life. Physical Education/Personal Fitness presents a unique opportunity for students to enhance their quality of life through physical activity.
COURSE OBJECTIVES (Taken from Michigan Framework Curriculum Content Standards)
Physical Education
1. The student will participate successfully in selected health-enhancing, lifelong physical activities.
2. The student will develop and maintain healthy levels of cardio respiratory endurance.
3. The student will develop and maintain healthy levels of muscular strength and endurance.
4. The student will develop and maintain healthy levels of flexibility of selected joints of the body.
5. The student will develop and maintain healthy levels of body composition.
6. The student will explain and apply the essential steps in learning motor skills.
7. The student will describe the effects of activity and inactivity and formulate examples of lifestyle choices that result in the development and maintenance of health-related fitness.
8. The student will demonstrate appropriate behavior related to selected personal/social character traits that commonly emerge in physical activity context.
9. The student will value physical activity and its contribution to lifelong health and wellbeing.

Primary career pathway: Human Services
The skills and knowledge you will acquire in this course will enhance your preparation for the following career pathway(s):
INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY:
STUDENT ASSESMENT
The student will be evaluated based on their individual efforts. Four areas of evaluation will determine each student’s grade. The areas of evaluation are:
1. Fitness testing 25%
2. Weight Training participation 25%
3. Attitude, Conduct, Attendance/Showers - Hygiene 25%
4. Daily Fitness, Games Activity Participation 25%
The semester grade will be determined by averaging each nine-week grade and a final test worth 20%
Grading Scale:
A 100% - 93% B 87% - 83% C 77% - 73% D67% - 63%
A- 92% - 90% B- 82% - 80% C- 72% - 70% D-62% - 60%
B+ 89% - 88% C+ 79% -78% D+ 69% - 68% F 59% or below
COURSE SCHEDULE
***Weight training will be an activity throughout the entire year. Each class period is divided among cardio, calisthenics, weight training, and activities.
Fall - Winter - Spring Activities may include:
Flag Football, Basketball, Whiffleball, Tennis, Softball, Soccer
Pickleball, Badminton, Volleyball, Dodgeball, Tennis
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to:
1. Be inside the proper locker room when the bell rings, and out for roll call fully dressed and ready to participate within six (6) minutes. At the end of each hour twelve (12) minutes will be allowed to shower and dress. School tardy policy will be followed.
2. No gum, food, or drinks in GYM/LOCKEROOM/WEIGHTROOM
3. The equipment room is off limits unless given permission by Mr. Sunday or Mrs. Low.
4. Stay out of the Lobby until the bell rings
5. A locker pass will not be issued to any student. Please bring all materials to class. Make sure to bring warm clothes for fall/spring, We will be outside.
6.The student will pay for broken equipment if he/she misuses it.
7. There will be NO DUNKING on the side baskets at any time for any reason!!! This is a serious offense and will be dealt with by the office.
8. Do not bring personal electronic devices to class. They are not allowed in the gym, locker room or weight room
9. Swearing, bad language and harassment will not be tolerated.
10. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
11. The balcony is off limits unless given permission by Mr. Sunday or Mrs. Low.
12. Sagging short or pants are not allowed. All shorts are to be worn at the waist.
13. Tank tops and sleeveless shirts are not allowed and all shirts must reach the waist.
14. When the whistle is blown the activity stops immediately for safety reasons. Put all equipment away at this time (do not throw them)
15. Do not leave equipment out during the period or afterwards. If you got it out and are no longer using it, put it away.
16. The weight room can be a dangerous area. Rules of safety must be followed. All weights must be placed on the racks when they are not being used. When lifting ALWAYS have a spotter. The weight room is designed for working out and is NOT a place to hang out and socialize.
17. Athletic events will NOT be an excuse from daily participation.
18. Everyone must have a combination lock. The P.E. dept. will supply them. The student is responsible for all material brought to class. A lock is provided … use it.
The office is the last resort!
